Crabby, irritated, cramped, tired, mood swings, and FAT. I have gained I swear 3 Ibs of water weight gain in the last few days. I am eating everything in sight, and then I won't eat at all. I am extra tired it's near impossible to get through a full work day, school paper, or anything else requiring my devoted attention. I thought in complete honor of being a woman, and being blessed with a period. I would share some of the things I do, eat, or use during my period. It might help some of you women blessed with a period to. A post dedicated to celebrate our natural body functions, cause we are lucky like that.
1. Chocolate..not just any kind it has to be dark chocolate. I eat this cool type of bar called a PMS chocolate bar it's suppose to contain some sort of good for you stuff that helps ease your PMS symptoms. It taste pretty good and that's the part I am digging.
2. Heat Pads, I have such bad cramps that I am crippled over on the floor screaming in agony. One of the best reliefs I have found is using heat on my stomach. It helps me to relax, and also eases my stress so I can sleep quicker. ThermaCare has become one of my favorites to use, but I do have one that I can plug in as a back up that I got at Target for maybe 10 bucks on discount after the Christmas holiday. A great time to buy a heating pad!
3. PMS Pillow, I use a Pillow to scream, rant, yell, and get out all my anger on to, that way it doesn't get projected at anyone important like Geek Guy. A pillow can be used really at any time you feel the need to let out your anger, once your done inhale and exhale and let it go. Never keep bottled up bad energy running through your veins. Stress is a killer!
4. Food No No's, Yeah right! I'm going to eat to hearts content, but if you are smarter than I have been, you would avoid these foods: caffeine, simple sugars, salt, and fats. All the things you crave basically. We can laugh at that I just admitted to eating chocolate during my period. Drink plenty of water and eat veggies and less sugary fruits. A big bottle of Dr. Pepper sounds good right now..with some salty sour pickles. Anybody else crave weird things during your period? I like those super big pickles the ones you get at movie theaters.
5. I do not take Midol with caffeine but the one without is safe, and seems to help relieve my symptoms. I try to take a few Midol days before my period comes so that I can nip the cramps in the bud early. Midol is not the answer to solve every period woe, but helps most people.
6. Exercise, get moving. Working out can help with PMS symptoms and lower stress levels, making sleeping easier on you, and it boost your metabolism you will feel less sluggish. Walking, jogging, biking are not to hard on the body during your period, yet still give you the pump up you want to feel better. It takes me 20 minutes of exercise, 20 minutes of weights, and over an hour or two just to talk myself into it, but once I do, the results are I finish and come home and get some good shut eye. It helps to wear your clothes to bed then when you wake up it's not as much of a hassle to get up and go.
It's hard having this body a woman's body, dealing with this every single month, but with proper management it doesn't have to run your life. I guess were really lucky to have a period, we get to carry a big balloon for nine months, push out a watermelon head, and go through gyno exams. Yes! at the end of the day we are the lucky ones. Remind yourself of the crying, stinky poo, little baby you will or do have and it makes this all worth while! I guess...precious and full of cuteness too!
You didn't think I was going to end this post without a goodie. Did you? Who me...
